Preparing for Fireworks
Start desensitising your pets to the noise by quietly playing recordings at a level they are happy with*
Gradually increase the noise at small increments but stop if they show any signs of distress*
Once happy with the noise, introduce a chew or food to learn firework = good things! *
Find out when fireworks are likely to go off in your area so you can plan in advance

Create a safe haven in a quiet area that they have access to and are comfortable with
*make sure to take your time with this and seek help if your pet cannot cope or you are not sure what to do
On the night
Make sure they have access to a safe haven so they can hide if they wish to
Provide comfort if your cat or dog seeks reassurance, but give them space if not
Close windows and curtains and turn lights on. Put music or the TV on to help disguise the noise
Walk your dog before dark and avoid letting them into the garden if they don’t need to

Make sure rabbits and guinea pigs are secure or bring them into the house
Things you can buy
